Mae Wang Tribal Adventure – trekking and cyling - 3 days

During this three day trip you will enjoy beautiful nature, waterfalls, tropical forest and meet the tribal people who call this enticing area their home: The Karen. You will cycle first half a day through the lowlands, passing seldom visited Lanna style temples and abundant fruit plantations. You will enjoy staying two nights in a tribal village, learn about local culture and food, hiking through the forest of the Mae Wang National Park and make a wonderful bamboo raft trip on the Wang River.

Day 1: Chiang Mai- Karen Village

Description:
Your guide will meet you at the hotel. He will transfer you to the starting point of your bicycle trip. We cycle through lovely countryside with beautiful Lanna style temples over paved and some unpaved roads. We pass through extensive longan plantations and visit a temple to make a donation. You will hear about the many kinds of fruit that grow in this area and taste some fruit of the season. Around lunchtime we finish our bike ride. We will have lunch at a local restaurant before we drive to the starting point of our trekking. This afternoon we will walk mostly uphill and are rewarded with magnificent views.
After arrival in the Karen village where we will spend the night your guide will introduce you to your host for tonight. You can explore the village while he starts to prepare dinner. You are welcome to help him with cooking. We also encourage you to practice some Karen language with your host after dinner while your guide Overnight in the Karen village.
Day 2: Karen village – Jungle Camp

Description:
Your guide will prepare breakfast. After breakfast we will visit the village before we start trekking. We will trek deep into the Mae Wang National Park, first along a broad trail but later along narrow forest trails. Look out for wild ginger, tree ferns and orchids. There is plenty of time for stops during which your guide will tell you about the trees and plants around you.
We will enjoy a “jungle lunch” in the forest. After lunch we will trek further until we reach another Karen village. Here we will take a break until we descend to the place where we will spend the night: a bamboo house at a beautiful location along a fast flowing river with crystal clear water and many little cascades. We call it our “jungle camp”. At this wonderful place there is time for relaxation. You can bathe your tired feet in the river, assist your guide with preparing dinner or just enjoy the quietness and fresh air.
Then it is time for dinner. After dinner enjoy a campfire before it’s time for bed.Overnight in the jungle camp.
Day 3: Karen Village – Chiang Mai

Description:
Rise with the roosters. Your guide will prepare a hearty breakfast. After breakfast we will start our descent back to civilization. We pass ricefields and trek through beautiful dipterocarp forest before we reach a pretty waterfall where we will spend some time relaxing, swimming and enjoying nature. After a short walk we will see our trekking truck parked along the road. Drive to the private house where we will have lunch.
After lunch, we will drive to a small rafting camp. Our bamboo rafts will be waiting for us. Enjoy a relaxing and, at times, exciting bamboo raft trip for about 45 minutes on the Wang River. After this we board our trekking truck for the drive back to Chiang Mai.On the way back we will stop at a beautiful market before we drop you off at your hotel or guesthouse.

- Long sleeves for the evening (especially in the winter Nov - Feb it can be a bit cold)

Due to weather conditions and other conditions on the ground we might have to adjust the itinerary of this trekking. If it is necessary to adjust the program we will always make sure that the quality of your experience and your personal safety are safeguarded.
Please respect local customs and traditions. We will give you a document named "code of conduct in the village". Read it before you go on your trek. Dress conservatively in the village. Please refrain from or, at least minimize, the intake of alcoholic beverages while you are in the village.
