Beyond the small town Samoeng, northwest of Chiang Mai, is a heavily forested area. There are mainly Karen villages in this area and there are some stunning waterfalls. This is the stunning place where we will take you to on this two day trekking adventure. We will use a comfortable four-wheeldrive vehicle and you will be able to select your favorite dishes*. All drinks are included and you only have to carry your camera and a bottle of water.
We drive to Samoeng where we will do some shopping at the local market. From there we continue over a dirt road to the start of our trek. We spend the night in the Karen village Khunwin from where we have a fantastic view over Samoeng and Doi Pui/Doi Suthep National Park. If skies are clear you can see Chiang Mai.
The following day we will continue to a fantastic waterfall where there is time for a swim. We will have a picnic lunch at the falls before we descend along many smaller waterfalls to the ricefields of the Karen village Huay Yuak where our car will be waiting for us. Then it is time for a relaxing bamboo raft trip on the river. There is also an option to make an elephant ride here before we drive back to Chiang Mai.

Itinerary:
Day 1: Chiang Mai – Karen Village

Description:
Your trekking guide will pick you up at an appointed time at the hotel. We will leave Chiang Mai behind us and drive by 4X4 vehicle into the mountains, northwest of the city. Via a very scenic mountainous road we will drive to Samoeng. We stop in this small town to do some shopping at the local fresh market. You can join your guide. After this we will drive a bit further into the wilderness via a dirt road.
After a short drive we will start trekking along a river to a Karen village. Here we will rest for a while. We will lunch along the way at a nice spot in the forest.
Then we will continue through the forest. We will have some nice views along the way and your guide will take time to tell you about some of the trees and plants in the forest. We will meet now and then local people working on their ricefields cut out from the forest and have a chat.
At the end of the day we will reach Khunwin, a Karen village, where we will spend the night. You will have some time to explore the village on your own before dinner. From Khunwin you have a great view over the mountains and over Samoeng. With clear skies you will be able to see Chiang Mai in the distance.Your guide will cook dinner. Overnight will be in a village house.
Day 2: Karen Village – Chiang Mai

Description:
Early rise to see the sunset before we have breakfast. After breakfast we will start our trek to the Huay Yuak waterfall. We will visit the Forestry Department office before we leave the village.
We will pass the plots where the Forestry Department is experimenting with growing cash crops such as tea, coffee, dragon fruit and so on in this mountainous environment. We will have a quick look here before continuing our pleasant forest hike. It is a long descent towards the spectacular Huay Yuak waterfall where we will drink tea and where you can have a swim. After this we will have lunch here before we descend to the lower levels of this waterfall. It is a fantastic trek which ends in the ricefields of the Karen Village Huay Yuak. Here is our 4x4 luxury vehicle is waiting for us. It is a short drive to the place where we will board our bamboo raft for a nice raft trip on the river. You also have the option to make an elephant ride here before we return to Chiang Mai.

- Short sleeve shirts for the day time (bring a spare one, just in case)
- Long sleeves for the evening (especially in the winter Nov - Feb it can be a bit cold)
- Shoes with good grip (especially in the raining season from May - Sep)

- 1000-1500 Thai Baht per person in small (not bigger than 500 Thai Baht and plenty of 100 Thai Baht notes). This is for souvenirs, drinks and tips.

* You will be able to choose 4 dishes per meal. Your guide will give you these options on the eve of the trekking.
Due to weather conditions and other conditions on the ground we might have to adjust the itinerary of this trekking. If it is necessary to adjust the program we will always make sure that the quality of your experience and your personal safety are safeguarded.
Please respect local customs and traditions. We will give you a document named "code of conduct in the village". Read it before you go on your trek. Dress conservatively in the village. Please refrain from or, at least minimize, the intake of alcoholic beverages while you are in the village.
