Bike and Hike in Northern Thailand – 3 days

This is an active tour which will take you to some of the most beautiful spots around Chiang Mai. We spend most time on our bicycles or trekking through the forest. You will meet elephants, chat with tribesmen around the campfire, learn about local traditions, cycle through some of the oldest ruins in Northern Thailand and follow the Ping River along its most scenic stretch.

Itinerary:
Day 1: Chiang Mai – Mae Wang

Description:
Your guide and driver will pick you up from the hotel. We will start our bike ride outside Chiang Mai. We start cycling over quiet country roads. We will pass villages, markets, local temples and there will be plenty of time to chat with the local people. We will have a picnic lunch along the way.
In the afternoon we will reach Mae Wang. We will cycle on for a while until we are tired. We will drive the last stretch to Mae Win where we will stay overnight.Along the way we will stop at one of the elephant camps. Your guide will explain about the situation of the Asian Elephant. Continue to Mae Win.Overnight at the Mae Win Guesthouse.
Day 2: Mae Wang

Description:
After breakfast we will drive to the start of our trek, only about 10 mins. Start trekking through the forest uphill. We will leave the ricefields behind and follow a stream towards a beautiful waterfall. Here we will take time for a swim. Continue uphill. We will have lunch in the forest. Your guide will explain about the forest and the way it is being used by the villagers. We pass a Karen village until we reach our final destination which is another Karen village. Our lodging overlook the mountains. Fantastic views!
Here we will have time to relax a bit before we make a walking tour through the village. You will see people weaving and being engaged in producing handicrafts. We will visit an interesting agricultural project. Then it’s time for dinner. You can assist your guide with preparing dinner. After dinner enjoy the company of a couple of villagers who will explain about their lives and their history. Local women will show their most beautiful traditional dress.Overnight will be in a bamboo lodge with clean toilet.
Day 3: Mae Wang – Chiang Mai

Description:
After breakfast we will start our descent through the forest to the main road. It is a nice and beautiful walk. On the road our car is waiting for us. We will drive the short distance to the place where we will start our exciting bamboo raft trip on the Wang River.
Lunch will be in a local restaurant before we continue to Sanpatong. We still have our bicycles with us so why not go for another bikeride. We drive to the seldom visited ruins of Wiang Takan. We visit these mysterious ruins on our bikes before we ride towards the Ping River. We follow the river until we have had enough and it’s time for a shower back in the hotel. Drive back to Chiang Mai. Arrival in Chiang Mai in the late afternoon.

- Shoes with good grip (especially in the raining season from May - Sep)
