Huffing and puffing the train makes its way up through Doi Khuntan National Park to the Khun Tan station were we disembark at around 1100. We see the train disappear through the Khun Tan tunnel, the longest railway tunnel in Thailand. Before we start hiking up to the park headquarters we pay our respect to the small monument erected in honor of Emil Eisenhofer, the engineer who oversaw the construction of the tunnel, and his wife Irmgard. The monument is also in remembrance of the labourers who perished during the construction. We arrive at the Park Headquarters at around noon. We will have lunch in a small restaurant before we drive up to the parking lot where the road stops.
From here we will walk up to our bungalow where we will spend the night. In the afternoon it is possible to trek to a nearby waterfall.Your guide will cook for you a delicious meal.
