Hat Khanom - Mu Ko Thale Tai National Park
Hat Khanom - Mu Ko Thale Tai is not yet officially a national park. It is located in southern Thailand, covering territory of the districts Khanom and Sichon of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province and Don Sak and Ko Samui of Surat Thani Province.
The name of the park mentions the two major parts of the park - Hat Khanom refers to the beaches of Khanom district, and the Thale Tai archipelago consists of 8 islands in the Gulf of Thailand between Khanom and Samui island. Further areas belonging to the park are forested hills, and mangrove forests along some of the creeks. There are some really spectacular beaches in Khanom district. There are a number of caves and the Hin Lad and Samed Chun waterfalls are perfect places for a refreshing swim.
Of the 8 island in the Thale Tai archipelago the best known and biggest is Koh Taen. This lovely island has some great snorkeling spots, five bungalows and a small restaurant.
The island can be reached within one hour from Prathap Cape.
Dolphin spotting is a great activity in this national park. For a small fee fishermen will take you out to see these wonderful animals. The boat trip in itself is nice, along a beautiful coastline, and normally includes a visit to Koh Nui, a rocky outcrop with the statues of two Buddhist monks.
